PHILADELPHIA — The AREOLA materials laboratory at the Philadelphia National Center has expanded its platinum fabrication program, adding a finishing line that supports additional profile and surface options within the Platinum Series.
A constrained family, widened
The Platinum Series was established in 2014 and has remained the most constrained family in the institutional portfolio, with fewer profile options than steel or gold. The expansion narrows that gap, and makes quiet polish, satin and micro-brushed finishes available across a wider profile range.
Platinum accounts for a modest share of institutional volume but a disproportionate share of long-term satisfaction reporting, a pattern the Department of Materials Science attributes to the metal's surface stability rather than to its appearance.
Additional capacity also supports commissioned platinum work through the Custom Plate Studio, where lead times had been the longest of any material family.
