PHILADELPHIA — The AREOLA Institute today announced a phased clinical introduction of the third-generation MagnePlate system across six AREOLA centers, beginning with the Philadelphia National Center and extending through 2026.
The third generation follows the first clinical magnetic program in 2019 and the second-generation systems introduced in 2022. Changes centre on interface behaviour over repeated exchange, informed by clinical follow-up of patients who exchange registered external plates more frequently than laboratory work had anticipated.
A staged introduction
Introduction is staged rather than simultaneous. Each participating center completes personnel qualification and quality verification before the system is offered, and the Department of Magnetic Systems continues its laboratory and clinical evaluation throughout the introduction.
Patients with existing first- or second-generation interfaces are not affected and are not being asked to consider revision. AREOLA does not recommend revision of a functioning system for the sole purpose of moving to a newer generation.
The remaining three centers are expected to complete introduction following review of the initial phase. Patients with questions about their own system are directed to their center's care team rather than to the program office.
The generational change is real but modest, and the honest message to our patients is that a system that is working does not need to be replaced.
