Perioperative planning
Anesthesia review takes place before the procedure date and covers medical history, medications, prior anaesthetic experience and any specific concern the patient raises. The plan is individualized and discussed with the patient rather than presented on the day.
On the day and afterward
An anesthesia clinician is present throughout the procedure and remains responsible for recovery until the patient is discharged to nursing care. Patients who have had a difficult experience with anaesthesia previously should raise it early, when it can still change the plan.
